Community Listening Sessions With Youth With Lived Experience

The YAB lead listening sessions to collect feedback from young people in our community with lived experiences of homelessness or housing instability.

This space was specific to young people, to ensure comfortable and authentic youth collaboration.

What we Learned From Young People About Their Experience

They were remaining unidentified because of fear of getting themselves/others in trouble. They didn't have people they felt they could trust to help or connect to services.

When accessing general adult shelters, they felt unsafe and had experienced traumatic situations.

What We Learned About Accessing Services

 It was not clear how or where to access services (especially in a crisis!)

Also, young people are prioritized very low on general homeless services coordinated entry lists, which is why few get connected to programs.
